Advanced scanning is a reading method with improvements to scanners that use the conventional CCD method. It demonstrates superior performance in reading compared to the conventional CCD method.
Characteristics of advanced scanning
Poor quality and high-density label reading
With various improvements to the reading mechanism in advanced scanning, high density and poorly printed bar code labels can be read easily. Even bar codes that caused reading to be stressful in the past can be read with ease, while the ease of use has been improved considerably.
Fast bar code reading
The laser method makes it possible to scan approximately 30 times per second. For a standard CCD, it only 100 to 200 scans per second are possible. The advanced scanning system achieves up to approximately 400 scans per second. This is superior to conventional bar code readers.

Remote Label Reading
Advanced scanning is based on the CCD method, yet it achieves remote label reading levels similar to that of the laser method.
Advanced Scanning Reading Features
Advanced scanning uses a CCD which is longer in length and captures a bar code not as simple lines but as a two dimensional plane. By capturing the bar code as a two-dimensional plane, advanced scanning can properly recognize bar codes that line capture cannot, even with part of the bar code missing or blurring.
Combining with a high speed CPU when retrieving analog waveforms facilitates complex and vast data processing and easy conversion to digital format. This type of processing allows high-precision reading of a poor quality label that could not have been read in the past.
The lens adopted for advanced scanning uses a longer-length diaphragm.
The longer-length diaphragm can capture a narrow bar code clearly in a crosswise direction. It can capture a bar code in the dark by utilizing a greater amount of light in the lengthwise direction. These features allow reliable capturing of high density and distant bar codes.
Some models adopt the hybrid mechanism, where a laser to facilitate remote label reading indicates the reading position. Since this laser does not contain movable parts such as a laser-type bar code reader, it has excellent impact resistance.
